On October 11th, the Sussex County Republican Committee awarded certificates to two of its members for their outstanding service to the community and the Republican Party.

William Murphy, a veteran and resident of Ocean View is an EDC in the 38th Representative District.  This past Spring, Bill gathered some of his 38th district friends to meet at the flagpole on the boardwalk in Bethany Beach at 8:30 AM each Wednesday morning.  The group continues to meet each Wednesday morning to pledge the flag and sing the Star-Spangled Banner.  As you can imagine, passers-by stop to look and once they realize what the group of about 15 are doing, they too, place their hands over their hearts, pledge and sing.  Many of these then return each week to join the group.

In addition, Bill has been having an ongoing issue with the Town of Bethany related to the way in which it displays the American flag at the town office on Garfield Blvd.  Frequently, the Delaware State flag which is displayed on a separate pole is flying at a height equal or almost equal to that of the American flag.  As Bill correctly points out, the American flag must always fly above any other flag being displayed.

Michelle Parsons, MD of Dagsboro, served the nation as a flight surgeon in the Air Force.  Michelle has been an EDC in 38-2.  Michelle was recently elected as the President of the 38th District Republican Club, PAC.  She is also the sponsor of the Sussex Teen-Age Republicans.  She was instrumental in launching this, the first Teen-Age Republican Club in the State.

Michelle guides the teens in learning about local history and the Constitution.  They recently spent the day at Fort Delaware. Some of their meetings focus on the various the Constitutional Amendments that are relevant to recent news stories. Topics discussed have included the 2nd and 25th Amendments.  STARS can be found at the Delaware State Fair and some of them attended the July Critical Race Theory Panel Discussion sponsored by Heritage Action for America.  Each year, the STARS have participated in the Wreaths Across America event at the Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro.  You can expect to see the STARS at the upcoming Rehoboth Sea Witch Parade on October 30th. For more information about the STARS please see their Facebook page.

Please congratulate Bill and Michelle for their exceptional service to our community and promoting our Republican values.
