New Dates for Checker-Challenger and Scan Watchers

Posted on 09-11-2022

Greetings, fellow Republicans,

For those of you who have taken the training for Checker Challenger, I wanted to mention again that we will be having a post-mortem (or “after action”) meeting to discuss what went well and what we can do to improve our training.  Your observations are critical to “getting this right.”  The date and time for this meeting is 6 PM, September 22nd at Old Paths Church of Christ.  No need to RSVP.  Just show up.  I hope to see you there.

There is also another opportunity to involve our fellow citizens in election integrity assurances.  As mail-in and absentee ballots come into the Department of Elections, they are scanned.  They are not tallied until after the close of the polls on the actual Election Day (September 13 and November 8).  We don’t know if there will be the unconstitutional early voting for the General Election but it looks as though that may be the case as the lawsuits are still with the judge and it is uncertain when a decision will be made.

With that in mind, we are planning to take a pro-active approach and ask for volunteers to be “Checker-Challenger Watchers” for the scanning processes.  There are two different processes – one for absentee, and one for mail-in ballots.  You will recall that absentee voting has been around for a very long time so the process of what constitutes a legitimate vote for absentee is not changing. We will review those at a training session so the watchers are able to assure that the proper procedures are followed.

Mail-in ballots, however, are new and thanks to an amendment by Senator Colin Bonini (R SD-16 – Kent County) there are special processes and requirements that must be met for a mail-in ballot to be considered legitimate.  These are now included in the law.  (Thank you Senator Bonini!)  We will be providing training to anyone who is interested in taking on these roles.

With all that said, we will have training sessions at Old Paths Church of Christ on the following days:  For those who missed out on the previous training and who wish to take training for Checker-Challenger, we will do that after the “Watcher” training.

October 13 – 6 PM
October 17 – 6 PM
October 22 – 10 AM

I’m not certain how long the Watcher training will take but I don’t expect more than 1 hour.  The C-C training was less than 2 hours.

As always, should you have any questions, please send me an email.

Let’s ride the RED WAVE together!
