LET’S COMPARE! IS OUR Dept. of Justice ACCURATE??

IS OUR Dept. of Justice ACCURATE in stating, “Violent crime is down by 30%.”

Statewide, the number of violent crime incidents have consistently went up since Kathy Jennings took the Attorney General seat in 2019. The near 30% reduction they are reporting is comparing last year to this year.

The issue is 2 fold.

ONE: Violent crime is up 70% from 2019 and 77% from 2018.

TWO: Due to changes in code in response to criminal justice reform, how crimes are now reported, covid, and severe staffing shortages at law enforcement agencies across the state the data may not be accurately reflected.

For 2021, Wilmington has seen a reduction in overall violent crime and number of shootings but homicides are up by 13% from 2020.

Thefts from buildings and vehicles are rising exponentially across the state.
