Burton, who was elected to county council in 2016, served on the Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission for 11 years.
“I have a record I am proud of, but I still have work to do. Sussex County is changing and leadership is needed now more than ever,” he said.
Burton said he ran in 2016 on three principles: the comprehensive land-use plan being completed with action plans attached to it; action toward improved ordinances on buffers, open space and density; and addressing traffic issues through transportation improvement districts and an updated memorandum of understanding with state transportation officials.
“I have lived up to these campaign promises, but I still have work to do. The next four years are critical,” he said.
A native and lifelong Sussex County resident, Burton and four generations of his family have operated auto dealerships in the county for more than a century. Now retired, Burton serves as a member of the Bayhealth Medical Center board, a trustee for the University of Delaware and a member of the Delaware Council on Transportation. A graduate of Washington College in Chestertown, Md., Burton and his wife, Jullie, are parents to four grown children.
