The General Assembly is in recess until they return to Dover for a Special Session this Fall to address redistricting. We expect Sussex to gain 2 more Representative Districts and possibly another Senatorial District. We will keep you informed of how things are going as we know.
Below is a letter my husband and I authored and sent to the Coastal Point and the Cape Gazette. Please take the time to read this. Critical Race Theory is one of the “hot-button” issues that may have escaped the notice of some of you. This is an extremely important issue for all of us whether or not we have school-aged children or grandchildren.
Letter to the editor:
The largest teachers’ union, the National Education Association is endorsing and promoting the teaching of Critical Race Theory. Not to be outdone, the 2nd largest teachers’ union, the American Federation of Teachers’ president, Randi Weingarten is also espousing the need to teach what they consider “honest” history in the form of this divisive ideology. You remember Ms. Weingarten and her troupe – they’re the ones who kept your children home staring at computer screens during the 2020-2021 academic year. You were to ignore the fact that private and parochial schools were providing in-person classes without outbreaks of Covid. They’re also the ones who kept moving the goalposts related to what changes were necessary to the configuration and ventilation in schools before they would deem them to be safe enough for students and teachers. They even dictated to the Centers for Disease Control what this taxpayer funded public health agency should announce as the latest “science.” In the end, the CDC’s recommendations for schools became the whatever the AFT said it should be.
Please recall that it was only a few weeks ago when this advocacy group stated emphatically that they were NOT teaching CRT. Now these unions are preaching the benefits and necessity of teaching our children a Marxist-based curriculum that essentially instructs them to disregard anyone, parents included, who are not disciples of this destructive ideology. The AFT is threatening any entity that disciplines a teacher for teaching CRT will be sued. They’re amassing a war chest to make certain they have an adequate “legal defense” fund to protect those who teach your children to categorize others as “oppressors” or the “oppressed” based on skin color and ethnicity.
Do not be lulled into complacency by leaving your child’s education to the “experts.” Parents must become involved in vetting what is in the curricula. Sadly, in this environment, the “experts” are politicizing K-12 education and our children are being manipulated.
